Menorca

We just got back from a week away in Menorca. This was a well needed break. Most of the countries me and my wife have been too have been places like turkey, Gambia, Tunisia etc, but this time we thought we try a bit of spanish. The weather was very nice for most of the week, although the first few days did rain. We stayed in the resort of Calan Bosh, this is on the south west area of the island.

Whilst on the island we did some excursions. One of my favorites was a trip to Mount Toro. This is a small mountain which is the highest point on the island. The picture below is a view from the top.

When you get to the top of the mountain, there is a small church, which looks very nice until you walk around the side of it and there is a bloody great big mobile phone mast. Oh well :-)

The above picture is of my wife admiring the view whilst we had a break from a fairly long coach journey, I think the town nearby is called Fornells.

When we could drag our selves away from the all inclusive bar, we took some cycle rides. There was a very nice beach about a 10 minute ride from the hotel. The picture above shows a part of the beach. The weather was starting to turn at that point, as a small storm was brewing, but it made for a good picture ;-)

The picture above is of a bar that is literally carved into the side of a cliff. At night time this is also a night club. It was a very strange place, as the dance floor extends quite far into the cliff. It's a pity we couldn't go one night, but it was quite far from were our hotel was.

This was a good break, especially as a few weeks previously I resigned from my job, so this meant we could go away before I started the new company.

Got my new car

Today I got my first car. Instead of buying a car from someone I didn't know, I decided to buy my mother-in-law's old car. The car is a Daewoo Lanos. Nothing terribly exciting, but it's my first car so I like it :-)

The only problem was I had to drive the car back from Newcastle to Belper which is about 200 miles. Normally this wouldn't be so bad, but it was the first time I had driven by my self without the instructor next to me, so no pressure there then. But it went ok, first 15 minutes were a bit scary, but after that I was fine.
